VOLUNTEERS

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

1.  CLOTHES.  Wear comfortable clothes and shoes (Walking and standing are a big part of your job, right behind a big smile and friendly Hello!), bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray and rain gear (Rain parka, garbage bag, etc.) or an umbrella (Your prayers for cool sunshine will be appreciated!).  Please dress as you would for a company outing or picnic.  Shorts are fine, but no cut-offs, blue jeans, etc.  Shirts with collars are preferred, but no t-shirts, tank tops or halter tops.

2.  TIME.  If you can only volunteer for part of the day, that's just fine, please let us know when you register and if you're asked to take a position that conflicts with your time schedule, please tell us.

3.  CHAIR.  Bring a lightweight portable, camp stool, folding chair, etc. you will carry it with you onto the golf course.  Most of the holes do not have benches and you will get to stand or sit on the grass, unless you bring a stool or chair.

4.  PARKING.
Parking will be at the Gleneagles Country Club parking lot at the front of the Country Club. Gleneagles Country Club is located at 5401 West Park Boulevard, Plano, Texas 75093, Phone 972.867.6666.  The Country Club is approximately 1 mile west of Preston Rd on Park.

5.  ORIENTATION.  Most Volunteers should arrive at Gleneagles CC by 11:00 AM and sign in at Volunteer Registration.  Most Volunteers will have to be patient and hurry up and wait till we send you out onto the course at noon!   A Volunteer Orientation will begin around 11:30 A.M., when all Volunteers will meet and be paired up into teams and assigned to the various holes on the course.  All games, specific rules for each game will be reviewed and you will then be sent out onto the golf course around noon, prior to the Tee-off at 1pm.  This tournament will be a shotgun start, which means foursomes will go out to each hole and start playing on all holes at one time.  Thus, some golfers start on hole 1, and finish on 18, others start on hole 6 and finish on hole 5, etc.   Gleneagles Country Club has 2 courses, the "Kings" and the "Queens" and volunteers will be assigned accordingly.

6.  FOOD.  Volunteers will be provided a light lunch of sandwiches, drink, etc. to eat before you go out on the course.  If you have a big appetite, then you may want to bring a snack while you're out on the golf course in the afternoon.  All Volunteers are invited and welcome to stay for the Party at the Gleneagles Country Club after the end of the tournament.

 7.  TOURNAMENT.  Golf course assignments require you to be a part of the team (3-6people) assigned to a given hole.  About half of the holes will have a game for the golfers to play, others will simply have volunteers to greet the golfers at the tee box.  Smile alot and make the golfers feel at ease, your casual conversation about how they are doing and thanking them for coming out to the GLM DFW Addison Rotary Open, will help make the afternoon enjoyable for everyone.   During the golfers play, be observant and quiet, so they can concentrate.  Please stay off the middle of the course, as this is dangerous, since you may get hit by a golf ball.  Stay by the golf path and a tree, etc., if possible, as this is safest and least distracting to the golfers.  If your job is to be a greeter on a hole, then stay at the tee box, behind the golfers when they are driving.  If you are to monitor a Hole in One at the green, stand to the side of the green, nearest the golf path.  After a golfer has completed the game hole, if they are in 1st place, be sure they write their name and sponsor information on the game record stake, so this can be collected after the tournament.

8.  PARTY at 6:00 P.M.  After the Tournament, the Party will be held at the Clubhouse and will include dinner, announcements, silent auction, live auction, recognition of the Tournament Winners and Games (Prizes such as Hole In One, Longest Drive, Longest Putt, etc) and of course the Raffle.  The golfers come to support GLM DFW Addison Rotary Open, but really come to compete and play for the prizes and awards given at the Party.

9.  SIGNS.  Each hole on the course will have signage about the hole & game, sponsors, etc. Please turn in all signs outside of the Pro Shop.  Turn in all golf game results to the Pro Shop.

10.  MULLIGANS. Mulligans are "Extra" shots a golfer may purchase.  Mulligans may not be used on any game prize hole.

11.  GAME RULES.  If there is any confusion about how the rules are interpreted for a game, please make the best decision and then stick with it, until the Tournament Official clarifies the question.

12.  SEVERE WEATHER.  In the event of severe weather such as thunderstorms, the Gleneagles Golf Pro will sound a siren to alert all golfers and Volunteers to end play and return to the Clubhouse.  Please use your common sense and stay away from the trees if lightning seems likely.
